Next Committee of Adjustment Hearing - Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 375 Elm

Update on Recent Committee Hearings:

169 Glengarry - In residents' favour
135 Old Orchard - In residents' favour
16 Roslin - In residents' favour
57 Roslin - In favour of the applicant
317 Jedburg - In residents' favour

Recent Ontario Municipal Board Ruling RE: 60-62 Woburn Ave.

The ruling, unfortunately, was against the residents. Of note however is the statement that the board does not feel that this should in any way be a precedent for the neighbourhood. An extract of the decision follows:

"On the evidence provided, the Board finds that the two identical variances, one for each unit in the semi-detached dwelling, meet the four tests of section 45(1) of the Planning Act and are appropriate for the development of the property.

The Board finds that the 0.85 GFA,
while appropriate in this unique situation, should not be a precedent or a harbinger for similar GFA development within the community in the future. Rather, it reflects a situation that exists because of a series of peculiar and uncommon events."

Other Updates

RIOCAN

The latest development as of May 27, 2006, is that Riocan has appealed the City's decision to the Ontario Municipal Board.  BPRO is currently discussing strategies and options with Councillor Stintz and other neighbouring ratepayer groups.

Please check back for further updates.

In the Community Information Session held on Nov 15, 2005, Councilor Stintz announced that she would be opposing the RioCan proposal, and will be working with BPRO in this.

We have setup a committe of concerned residents who are dealing with this proposed development.  If you have any questions and/or concerns, please contact this committee by sending an email to riocan@mybpro.com.

For latest information about the status of the RioCan proposal, please refer to Councillor Stintz' website at http://www.karenstintz.com/issues

A public meeting has been announced by Councillor Stintz to discuss the revised application submitted by Riocan.  Please mark your calendars for this important meeting:

Feb 15, 2006 @ 7pm - Lawrence Collegiate

Please come prepared to express your opinions and ideas for this proposed development.  BPRO's committee may also be contacted if you wish them to air your concerns.  The Committee will be presenting their research and concerns in this meeting.

BPRO is also undertaking an online petition.  If you cannot make it to the public meeting, please sign this online petition and express your support for the fight against the proposed development.  Please click on this link to be taken to the RioCAN Online Petition sign-up page.

Bedford Park United Church Update

The Bedford Park United Church has been contemplating redeveloping its premises due to its shrinking congregation.  As an attempt to streamline the talks between the church and the local area residents, BPRO has invited concerned residents to form a committee.  This committee will provide a platform and forum for residents to express their concern and suggestions.

Please feel free to contact the Church Committee members at church@mybpro.com
